auth comparison provided by a fellow replady as well as several other sources online. I will say that 187 has improved their accuracy since the above pictures were taken in March this year. I had to really, reaaaalllly look on purpose to find any "mistakes", and to be honest some of the points I'm dinging are totally arbitrary.
Caveat: I do not have an auth next to me to do a side by side comparison so maybe there are other inaccuracies that I haven't seen. That being said, even auths vary slightly from year to year so I doubt these are problems that can't be passed off as a "seasonal discrepancy".
Quality – 9.25/10 - Beautiful leather quality, nice and supple. Color is a good dark black but also glossy under light.
- Hardware is nice and heavy, a good weight. Chain doesn't tangle at all. Turnlock is smooth, strong, and oddly satisfying. My weird brain loves things that fit together perfectly. As overpriced as Chanel is, I will say that Karl Lagerfeld was a design genius for realizing that the hole in the CC logo could be used as a lock.
- Bag has a nice sturdy structure. Top flap has a smooth curve thanks to the thick quality leather and the structural presence of the inside flap. Sides have a nice thick base running parallel to the bottom, signifying a well-formed inside layer. (The side folds on low tier reps will collapse inwards or otherwise have a shorter base and a longer fold.)
- Stitching and workmanship is great. 10 stitches per inch and all that. Quilts are the perfect amount of puff. The bag itself has been turned out properly and the inside lining fits snugly. No loose stitches or glue marks. Very impressive overall.
- Alignment is basically perfect. I was super nervous because this isn't the sort of thing that comes across easily on camera but yeah, front and back pocket are both great.
- [-0.25] Inside stamp is a little messy. The bottom half of the vertical stripe of the "E" in "CHANEL" is slightly thicker than it should be. The "M" in "MADE" is also smeared slightly (a problem consistent across this batch of 187s). However, these mistakes are very, very minor – the poor lighting and camera focus makes it look way worse than it actually is. One thing that you don't realize until you've gotten the purse itself is how small the font is, so mistakes that look big on camera are basically invisible to the human eye. The print itself is actually fairly sharp and not at all noticeable unless you were getting in there with a magnifying glass. Which, let's be real, no one – well, no one polite – would look at the inside of another woman's bag. All in all, nothing you can't pass off as a trick of the light.
- [-0.5] The leather strap threaded through the chain isn't perfectly cut. You can't tell unless you're trying to find mistakes but there are certain pieces of the leather fold that stick out unevenly. However, there are many complaints on ThePurseForum about this same issue. They also complain about how newer Chanel bags no longer stitch the leather strap but simply glue it. I don't see any visible glue smears so I'll just hope that 187 glue is just as strong as auth Chanel glue.
- [-0] There were some frayed (not skipped) stitches at the top of the chain where the leather folds back on itself. Normally I'd ding points but I solved this one with minimal effort using a nail clipper, so it is no longer a problem.
- [-0] Mild hydroxyfufu smell upon opening the package. I let it air out by an open window for a few days and that solved the issue. Now it just has that fragrant smell of real leather. Again, no points taken because it's a non-issue that required minimal effort on my part.
Accuracy 9.5/10, and this is after I'm being mean - Measurements: I compared it to the auth provided by a fellow replady and it's pretty much on point. Maybe a millimeter here or there but again, that's a margin of error that can be accounted for by camera angle and how you hold the tape measure. Quilted CCs are the correct width, width between CCs is the same as the width of the Cs (0.9 cm for all of them), et cetera.
- Color looks correct. Black dye has been applied properly. Leather feels indistinguishable from auth. The burgundy on the inside is nice and dark.
- Serial number sticker in the bag matches the authenticity card. Zeros have strikethroughs. Also, the clear tape over the serial number has gold specks, a dark line on the left side, and "NEL()CHANEL()CHA" on the right, which is how it's supposed to be according to https://www.yoogiscloset.com/authenticate/chanel. Again, nice attention to detail.
- Hardware
- Grommets (chain holes) are correct size/thickness and positioned properly. Some reps in the past have had slightly thicker grommets than auths but looks like 187 has fixed it.
- Turnlock: CC is correct, right over left at the top and properly centered. Correct shape, with the flat finish.
- Back lock is also correct, with Chanel on the top and Paris on the bottom when holding the bag on the left and the flap pointing towards the right. Correct font. Properly centered. The flathead screws on the back of the lock are correct.
- The "CHANEL PARIS" around the snap button is correct. "CHANEL" on top, left to right; "PARIS" on bottom, upside down and right to left.
- You know, people are always going on about how the metal on reps is slightly darkebrassier(?) than the auth. I mean, I guesss…I personally can't really tell the difference. You know what else is darkebrassier than the auth? Vintage auths that still used real 24k gold and not whatever cheaper alloy is being used these days. I think it looks better when it's bolder and more saturated. I don't want any of that washed out light yellow crap. It's called GOLD hardware, not "butter sunshine" hardware.
- Zipper on the top flap is the modern EP zipper, facing the right way up.
- Inside Stamp
- The gold tone on the hardware matches the gold tone on the inside stamp. I thought this was a nice touch.
- Quilted CCs are correct orientation and shape.
- The "E" in "CHANEL" on the inside stamp has the bottom horizontal leg of the E a tiny bit longer than the top horizontal leg of the E, which is exactly how auth Chanel does it. I thought that was a nice touch, good attention to detail. They also have the slightly wider space between the N and the E like the auths.
- [-0.25] I think the inside stamp underneath the quilted CCs is positioned a bit too far down, a few mm greater than 1.5cm. Also, the stamp itself is a little bit too wide. I'm talking 3.3cm vs 3.4cm. Like, no one's carrying a ruler and caliper around for this purpose. Nonetheless, I'm being mean, so minus points it is.
- Authenticity card
- Correct material (feels like a credit card)
- Properly centered gold border. No holographic funny business.
- They even got the dimensions and centering of the serial number and printing right. I'm impressed.
- They got the right font.
- They printed the "CHANEL" correctly. Proper bold width, the E with the slightly longer bottom leg, the slightly wider space between the N and the E.
- [-0.25] There's tiiiny white smudges on the edges of the authenticity card and the gold border where the printing ink didn't catch properly. I'm really reaching for this one, seriously. Actually, I don't even know if it's fair to be counting the card score into the overall bag score, and I'm only including it because it's arguably part of the "authenticity" or whatever.
Satisfaction – 100/10 This was my very first rep and I'm sooo impressed. Actually, this is my very first luxury good in general. I've seen luxury bags belonging to other people before but never bought one. And yes, I count this rep as a luxury bag. Even if it's a rep, it's a high-tier rep that cost me close to $600, which is as much as an auth Gucci. In my mind, this one is not simply "as good as" the real thing, it
is the real thing.
I've brought it into Bloomingdale's, Saks, etc. and let me tell you I could feel the crowds of people parting before me like the sea before Moses. I was treated like a queen. Or maybe they were treating me normally but I certainly felt like a queen, haha. Although I've had strangers do the impressed "ooh, that's the purse I want someday" thing to me. Maybe that's just the general way the designer purse community views Chanel or Hermes.
As for the purse itself, it serves me well. This is less of a rep thing and more of the general Chanel design. I'm pretty minimalist so this size is perfect for what I need to carry. The interior of this purse is actually pretty tiny though. Here's what fits in each part.
- Inside layer: wallet, keys, makeup bag, and sunglasses.
- Front pocket (between button and interior pocket): phone with a case. My phone is about 6" long but I think it can fit a slightly bigger one.
- "Love Letter" zipper pocket: super shallow; it can fit standard band-aids, but not cash.
- Interior back pocket: This is the thin opening between the interior layer and the outer layer. I stuffed two ultra-thin emergency pads back there. It will not fit anything thicker than ultra-thin.
- Back pocket: The "mona lisa" pocket. It's cute but does not fit much because of how closely it's sewn into the main body of the purse. I keep the authenticity card back there. I guess you can put money back there too but it's just super hard to get stuff out so I wouldn't bother.
The caviar is nice and sturdy, and the chain is the perfect drop length for single shoulder carry but a little too short for crossbody (I'm 5'3"). The only thing I find slightly annoying is that the flap on new bags is a little hard to open at first, but I suppose that's a tradeoff I'm willing to live with if it thicker leather and better structure for my bag.
Seller Communication and Service – 10/10 Heidi was so nice and responsive. I'm afraid I was one of those annoying customers; I kept asking her for extra photos in my PSPs and we went back and forth a couple times. But she never complained or got annoyed and always gave me what I asked for.
I know many people had trouble getting ahold of her and were waiting days for a reply but I never had that problem. She always responded to me within a few days. Sometimes immediately. I will say that I rarely initiated contact with her. The first time was when I was placing my order, the second time when I asked her if the payment went through. I mostly communicated via Outlook email. I also made sure to time my emails and WeChat messages – I'd send them based on China time (between 10am–2pm over there), not my time.
I also greatly appreciated her packaging. She wrapped the whole box in styrofoam and wrapped that in several layers of tape. The box arrived undamaged and beautiful. I also greatly appreciated the provided Chanel packaging, with the magnetic box, the shopping bag, the dust bag, ribbon, flower, the info cards and booklets, everything. I didn't research the authenticity and accuracy of the packaging much, and frankly I don't care. The fact that they're providing this stuff at all to give me the full experience makes me so happy. If I got this from 187 or a real Chanel boutique I wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

I saw a pretty good deal for a Sunbeam Premium Heated Mattress Pad. Costco had about 10 left close to closing time today. The only size that they had in stock was a king. Costco.ca usually sells a king heated mattress pad for $129.99 so I think $49.97 is a great deal. I saw this deal at the Costco in Mississauga near dixie and Dundas.
I am not sure if the deal is just offered at the Costco near me but I assume it would be all GTA locations. You can always call your local Costco and provide the admin staff item number 2009924 and they can help you determine stock levels. The reviews on this heated mattress pad seem to be very good too.
